The Time I Had a Taco Feast in Mexico

Through my time spent in Mexico, I was not afraid to indulge myself in the local food. Mexico is well-known for having incredible food and it cannot be avoided. Did you really go to Mexico if you didn’t have taco al pastor until your stomach ached?

Furthermore, I have a story to tell from my time when I was visiting the Yucatán Peninsula with my friends. It all began with the fact that when we went to Isla Mujeres, we barely ate anything. Moreover, by the time we got the ferry back, I was starving, but unfortunately all the restaurants were closed. That meant I had to wait until the next day to get something to eat.

The next day, I felt absolutely starved and it was the day we were heading to Tulum. Before we would catch the bus, we stopped at a place to eat lunch. Feeling ravenous, I thought, you know what? I’m going for it, I’m going to order 10 tacos. I went up to the make my order, the man working there did not believe and said in surprise “diez?”

When my lunch came to my table I had realised that I may have bitten off more than I could chew. These tacos were much bigger than I realised and I was overconfident about whether I could finish all of them. After polishing off 6 of them, I was starting to feel full and encouraged my friends to eat the rest of my tacos. However, I did not feel willing to give up, knowing how hungry I felt the night before. For my lunch I had eaten 7 tacos in total and felt sated.

A lunch fit for a king

Tacos for Lunch, Then Tacos for Dinner

Moreover, that wasn’t even the last helping of tacos I’d be eating that day. My friends headed down the road to Tulum and left our bags at the hotel. In the evening, we found an excellent and authentic restaurant which served some incredible tacos. After a few hours I was hungry again, so I ordered 8 tacos and 2 empanadas. My friends were in absolute disbelief and had the consensus that I wasn’t going to finish the whole plate.

Despite that, I was feeling hungry and could not resist how delicious these tacos were. Washing it down with a glass bottle of coke like a true Mexican, I was confident I would eat all of it. When I devoured my sixth taco, I was starting to feel like I was going to give up. However, just like at the end of Rocky II, I had to put all my strength in and finish the whole plate.

Surprisingly enough, I managed to finish the whole plate, including the 2 empanadas. I absolutely stuffed and my friends were amazed that I was able to eat so many tacos in one day. In total, I had 15 tacos and 2 empanadas and that is the most tacos I’ve had in one day ever since.

Buen provecho
